Quartsite pool coating is manufactured in a factory complying with SABS ISO 9001:2000 requirements.
Quartsite Pool Coating is light fast and therefore there is no need for the use of mosaics as a waterline finish.
Quartsite Pool Coating is a long lasting coating after which all that is required to recoat is a light sanding of the surface prior to recoating.
Quartsite Pool Coating is impervious to a wide range of chemicals, alkalis and acids. It does not have the tendency to mottle and will not have calcium build up as in cement based plasters. It has the added advantage of saving chemicals whilst being smooth to the touch.
WHY CHOOSE QUARTSITE POOL COATING?
The facts are simple.
The pool buyer or owner wants to receive the best value for money that is on the market. They also want to face the minimal maintenance problems that they can. Traditionally, cement plasters have proven to be the cheaper option, over systems like fibreglass. Those that ignored the costs and chose fibreglass did so for the simple reason of getting a smooth surface that is easy to clean and maintain. Those that chose cement often faced problems such as calcium leeching, cracking, hollowness, colour migration (unevenness of the colour over the surface caused by trowelling) and pH balancing issues faced due to the chemicals released into the water from cement. Fibreglass combats a lot of these issues, but not all. Fibreglass resins have been known to fade and display delamination characteristics. To top it off, fibreglass raw materials are very costly, without the added labour cost of specialist applicators to apply it. There are epoxy paint systems offering cheap alternatives to recoating your pool, but epoxies generally aren’t UV stabilized and the harsh sunlight damages them and causes chalking of the epoxy surface.
New pool builders who construct in gunite, handpack or brick built would need to plaster out the pool in order to receive the Quartsite Pool Coating (simple house plaster finished off with a wood float or steel trowel for smoother finish). But this is also true if fibreglass coating is called for. Naturally, this would not be necessary if pool plaster is used to coat either gunite or handpack, but the difference in cost is minimal to the owner who would want the best and the builder who would want the hassle free ease of the Quartsite Pool Coating application.
So we say again, WHY CHOOSE QUARTSITE POOL COATING?
Let us list the benefits of Quartsite Pool Coating to the other coatings on the market.
Colour:
Unlike the natural mottling effect that cement plasters offer, Quartsite Pool Coating, applied in even coats, gives a uniform colour throughout the pool. Cement plasters are also susceptible to calcium leeching - appears as white cloudy marks on the colour pool surface, Quartsite Pool Coating cannot have calcium leeching, as this is derived from the calcium in the cement of plaster. This is exactly what the colour pool buyer is asking for. Quartsite Pool Coating is UV light stabilized, so the colour applied lasts longer. Fibreglass resins aren’t UV light stabilized and many who chose the fibreglass system in their pool will complain about the fade in colour of their fibreglass coated pool within a short time.
Maintenance:
Quartsite Pool Coating is low in maintenance. It forms a waterproofed finish to the swimming pool without affecting the pH of the water. pH imbalances in pool water are also affected by the chemicals released from the cements in plaster. Being resin based, Quartsite Pool Coating cleans easy and isn’t porous, a problem that cement plasters face with regard to algae and dirt embedding itself in the pores of the plaster. Cement pools need a waiting period of up to 4 weeks before an automatic pool cleaner can be added. What does the client do for cleaning in the meantime? He/she is forced to do manual cleaning of the pool. Quartsite Pool Coating cures in 48 hours, and an automatic pool cleaner can be added immediately after the pool is filled. This is also true of salt loading for a chlorinator.
Furthermore, cement plastered pools wear to rough pitted surfaces that are unsightly and damaging to human skin.
Quartsite Pool Coating only needs resurfacing every 7 – 10 years (or more, depending on how well the pool is looked after) and all that is required is the pool to be emptied, lightly sanded and then recoated. A simple way to renew the look of the pool without the costs involved in replastering with all the preparation work that goes with it.
Spread and application:
Quartsite Pool Coating is supplied in 5 litre kits, which have an amazing coverage of 20m2, with 2 coats. How does this help you? Well, the average pool might use 2 – 3 kits (10 – 15 kg) to complete it, which in relation to the approximately 25 – 30 bags of cement plaster (1 – 1,5 tons) means ease and savings on transport. There is no fibre material needed which is messy and technical to use. No specialized plasterers or technical applicators are necessary. Quartsite Pool Coating has no need for any primer coat or bonding agent as with some epoxy systems and other paint systems. Quartsite Pool Coating is applied like paint with ease, using foam or lambs-wool rollers and good quality brushes for fine finishing under copings or around lights and fittings. Most applications require only 2 coats of Quartsite Pool Coating. All that is required is that the surface applied to is dry, sound, clean, well cured cement plaster free from oil residues, dust, loose particles and old paints. There is also no need for a mosaic line, if your client is asking for this to be done away with. Being fully UV stabilized; Quartsite Pool Coating can be applied right up to under the copings. If you can hold a paint roller and can paint a wall, you can apply Quartsite Pool Coating to a swimming pool. It’s that simple. Quartsite Pool Coating is also being tested to be used as a top coat in the fiberglass lining of swimming pools and to re-coat fiberglass pools.
Technical specifications:
Quartsite Pool Coating is a twin pack resin coating with a particularly high gloss and waterproof finish. It is suitable for interior and exterior applications for concrete/gunite pools. It has outstanding weatherability and chalk resistance (unlike epoxy coatings) and displays excellent flexibility and high abrasion resistance. Quartsite Pool Coating dries rapidly to a slick, durable finish that exhibits very good resistance to a wide range of chemicals (including acids, alkalis and solvents).
Quartsite Pool Coating is manufactured in a factory complying with SABS ISO 9001:2000 requirements.
Summary:
Quartsite Pool Coating is cost effective, with the use of a fraction of the technical labour needed to apply fibreglass or cement plaster (3 labourers can apply first coat in under 2 hours - on an average sized pool).
Quartsite Pool Coating is very easy to apply.
Quartsite Pool Coating is UV stabilized and doesn’t fade like fibreglass or chalk like epoxy paints. It doesn’t colour migrate like cement plasters do, and will never succumb to calcium leeching issues.
Quartsite Pool Coating penetrates the cement pool surface thereby eliminating osmotic blistering and delamination.
Quartsite Pool Coating is non porous and resists algae imbedding itself into the surface – allowing for simple easy cleaning.
Quartsite Pool Coating ultimately saves on pool chemicals and their costs.
